I would say finding great keywords to go along with your unique content is the second thing. Unique content is first, remember you write for your readers, not search engines, so it's great you've got that down.

Ideally, the best time to start with SEO is when you are planning and then registering a keyword rich domain name, whenever possible. You really should be doing indepth keyword research before you even put the site up. Then optimize each and every page, utilizing all tags (Google doesn't look at all of them anymore but some of the lesser SEs do).
Once you're content is optimized, backlinks are definitely the next step. Focus on one keyword at a time and get your site ranked high in the SERPs, then start backlinking for the next keyword you want to rank for. Make sure that you mix the backlinks so they are back to various pages within the site.
Also use anchor text for linking whenever you can, both within your site's linking and with backlinks.

But Kunal already said he has a blog and he has a unique content. What I would do is submit some articles to known article directories and after a month or two go for some serious link building by incorporating and mixing many available and reliable techniques.

As I did SEO for tech and gadgets blogs. So I would like to suggest you use unique and informative contents. Tech blogs can attract lots of visitors if you have good content and good SEO work. Promote your blog in good places which has good PR.

I will just wrap up everything since they have all mentioned what you need to do. Onpage optimization or good and unique content is first together with an SEO friendly lay-out then you could start the off-page optimization which are a combination of the things you mentioned like directory submission, social bookmarking, blogging etc.

SEO should begin when you start developing your site, the design is a very important factor. Keeping a horizontal directory structure, titles, meta tags, descriptive and simple file and directory names, optimized and quick loading graphics and so on, are all essential elements.

The most important thing what i feel is your codes you are going to code for your websites, thats gonna be the most important for seo ,other things such as title ,meta tags, header, footer.etc should be in such a way that your content get's crawled as soon as possible you add into your websites.Add site map to get the best outcome.use proper tags for headers, images. You can get w3c certification by checking/validating your websites code for the best results.
