I like #2. I like its more of a 3D effect. The #1 logo is very good, but I'd prefer the second one because it seems more interactive, apart from being attractive and pleasing to look at.

The second is better by far. It's more modern and less 'clip-art like' than the first one. I could definitely see the second one being more brand-able as well.

Yeah. The second one is much better. First one does look like clip-art.

Thanks for all your input guys, keep em coming. Stinks because I kinda liked #1 better but I want to go with the majority. For those that like #2 better, do you think I should change any of the characters or take away the arms on the leaf in the second?

I wouldn't change anything about Logo #2. It works as it is. I actually like the arms and I think the logo would appear empty without them.

I'd have to say I'm with Artashes with the second (#2) design, in that I wouldn't remove the arms ether as these certainly add to the design. #2 would also be the better of the two

i think i'm going to go back to the drawing board and not have a logo with cartoon characters. thanks guys!
