What are the mistake in driving traffic to a site?
I've learned how to drive traffic for websites from forum and other sources in the internet. I tried to work with directories, social networking sites, and forums. I also write blogs and articles but all doesn't help the sites I'm working on get much traffic. I don't know what I did wrong. Please help me understand more about doing SEO. Thanks a lot!!

Well, what did you do wrong? You're not being too specific. One way to improve your ranking is to carefully set up your keywords so that you will be listed favorably in search engines.

What you are doing (SEO) is for a website to rank high in search engines and once your website is on the top it will get the necessary traffic. In the process i.e., when you start seo/backlinking till the time your website is high in serps you may not get as much traffic.
The other option you could consider is spending for advertising which would eventually bring in good short term traffic.

I think you are forgetting your local market-make sure you take advantage of it.The chances that someone is going to visit your website or make a purchase through you that has been referred by a friend or trusted source is 10 fold.

I think the biggest mistake is this that some people ignore SEO for driving traffic and try only to use other methods.

You also have to have good content on your site, so people will want to go there.
I have a couple website's for my businesses with hardly any content, just enough to get the point across (I am still working on them)
and guess what???
I have no traffic
Just remember that your content is very important as well.

Google is hush-hush after the panda update,we need to be careful and work on a natural link building process.I think link exchange from sites sharing your theme will always have a significance role in the link structure

Could you please explain this in more detail? How does the landing page of your website affect the traffic that you try to bring in?

Maybe you should pay your attention to your content, as people often say that, content is king.
Does your site content have some impact on the visitor and be worth reading?
If I am visiting your website for the first time, I want to be impressed and bookmark your website so I return to see what else you compose.
