Need a new way to charge customers .. help!
ok right now i charge as follows for my services:
$300-400 for graphic design
$25-35 per/page for layout and coding (50 for home page)
$x for all special programming features
the main problem i run into is people trying to cut down on the number of pages to lower cost .. i tried to charge per/hour but that seems to lead to unhappy customers as some people think you drag it out
so i'm looking for a more efficient way to suck as much money as possible out of the client without making the project sound too expensive when i pitch it to them
any advice?

Maybe you can charge them Half price on every third page That way they wil see it as a special offer and buy more pages

you don't think thats a bit confusing to tell a customer?
what do you think of a breakdown like:
35$/page for 10 pages or less
30/page for 10-20 pages
25/page for 20-30 pages
20/page for 30+ pages
or something like that...?

fstep,
Fees based on a "per page" or "per hour" ratio are difficult to maintain.
Bundled price points would suit your situation better. For example, let's say you provide a homepage, two sub-pages, and validated markup, for a $150 base payment. Depending on special requests by the client, you could provide each sequential sub-page for a base of $25, and any extra features for an additional $10 or so, depending on what the client actually needs.
If you need anymore help, feel free to contact me, and we'll definately talk more.

I quote based per job, this includes development fees, approximate hours to complete project, overheads etc.
There should be no hard and fast rule as to how you price projects. Being flexible is the best way to go here.

I charge a 'minimum' charge which includes up to X pages.
This could change depending on the client. So I would have an idea on what sort of information they want to display and come up with roughly how many pages that would be then I would put a flat rate in the quote for these pages and then give them another price for each additional page.
eg: $600 including up to 5 pages of layout/coding.
$70 per additional page
or something like that.
But there is no option to 'delete' pages to reduce that base rate.
Instead of charnging $300-400 for 'graphic design' I would ditch that and just have one amount which includes graphic design, web layout etc of up to x pages. Additional pages at $x
