I like blogger, but the best thing to do is get your own domain and host blogger's software on a personal site. Or so I've heard. I've done this with modest success a few times.

Start on your own domain, using Wordpress.
That way you have complete control over your blog, and you also come across as more credible & professional.

I would recommend wordpress (not from wordpress.com, instead install it on a web host). You get complete control over it. And more control means you can add themes, plugins and a loot more.

Like others, I think that a Wordpress blog with your own domain is great. If you are still new to blogging and don't necessarily want to use your own domain, I recommend Blogger. I've used both Blogger and Wordpress, and I just prefer it's overall feel.

Wordpress, self-host. You'll get the most themes, plug-ins etc.

My first blog was hosted on blogger, mostly because I didn't have a paypal account yet and couldn't get hosting. In the long run, it is better to opt for wordpress as you can make a backup of your files. I don't think it's possible to do that in blogger, am I right?

I've been playing around with Wordpress myself. Pretty user friendly.

Blogger is the best place to start if you are new to blogging. Wordpress is more towards advanced users.
