Is it possible to create good looking websites in just html/css?
Nearly every site I visit uses images, flash and various other elements to create their identity. Do you know of any websites that use just coding? If so, do you think it's possible to create a good looking website in just html and css?
I remember back in the 96 era when the Internet was just starting, the majority of websites were plain tables or coloured (if they were professional) with the odd button image here and there. The evolution of design has happened so quickly, i'm wondering if we will ever see any pure html designs again?

this is just 'css (simplistic) vs graphics (intense) round 2'. the points are the same and already in that thread.

I don't agree that this is the same, in that thread we're discussing what's better simple designs or intense designs. I'm asking if it's possible to create a design in pure html/css that looks good in todays internet. A site that doesn't have any images at all, i'm also interested in any links anyone has to share (if they know of a decent site)

that's exactly what a simple design is, hence my hatred for CSS only websites -- means no image(pure css/html colouring) -- therefore yes. what's left to discuss?

You could actually make some really neato ones. I have thrown together a few of them just filling with colors, although it would look allot better with graphics, in my person oponion.

Although I agree with the fact we can achieve some nice results by HTML CSS only, it's not the 90's anymore. And images do have some good use in a site. So I wouldn't even think about not using them.

Of course it is, but with the right color scheme, etc.

The sexiest sites load the quickest.
You wouldnt beleive how PLEASED I was to see that photoshop website load instantly, instead of it loading, then images afterwards.
