Anyone here use dual monitors?
Hello,
I've been thinking of purchasing a second monitor. I was wondering how many people here use them, and what do you think of them?

I've used two monitors before and it's very useful. If you have the cash I would go for it!

Personally I don't use 2 monitors, but I have friends which do and it's very useful.
So if you have money, go for it.

Well most people want to buy bigger screens, the good thing is that its always cheaper to buy 2 screens that a single BIG-One and generally you get more screen space for less money.
Its a great option if you work with graphic design, web design, coding, language translations etc...
The magic here is that you can make changes on one screen and see the updates on the other screen, without making too much clicks, alt+tab's and that kinda stuff.
In a work scenario is a great thing to have, but you can also use it for fun, you can watch videos on one screen and work on the other, its better than having a tv.
Go for it !!!
(just remember that you need a graphic card that supports the dual-screen-setup... and of course a 'Y' cable that connects your graphic card to both screens.)

Would I need that "Y" thing if my video card already has 2 DVI ports?

I have used dual monitors in the past. At the current time I do not. They are great if you do a lot of designing or multitasking. Also if you like to watch a movie or put itunes/outlook on the separate monitor while you have your main workspace on the other monitor.

Dual monitors is the way to go, it's a pain to work on anything but that after you get used to it. No you won't need a Y connector, just run a DVI to each monitor and each port on your video card.

Okay, once I have enough money, I'll buy a second monitor and a new video card (My current video card cost about $20).
I guess buying a new monitor of the same size would be cheaper than buying a larger monitor to use by itself.
